Less than four months after Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice was involved in a car crash on a Dallas highway, two of his teammates are speaking out about speeding.

Rice was driving as fast as 119 mph, Dallas police said, shortly before he was involved in a multicar collision.

Coincidentally, Chiefs receivers Mecole Hardman and Xavier Worthy appeared in public service announcements earlier this month for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration about speeding.

In his spot, Hardman says: “For the NFL, the Need for Speed is everything, especially on the field. Staying focused on the field of chaos, everybody is trying to get at you, everything’s going so fast. You as a player, you’ve got to stay calm, have that calm mindset, knowing what’s going on around you and with that you got to really be under control and be precise what you’re doing. And kind of like translate to on the road because when you’re driving, you need to have awareness of what’s around you.

“I think there’s a lot of accidents that happen because you react too late and speeding definitely can get you in wrecks and you could claim the life of another person. So going over that speed limit is making you unsafe, you’ve got other people’s live at stake when you’re behind the wheel.”

Here is the spot:

Worthy said in his commercial that he is the fastest player in the NFL.

“As we cruise into the summer travel season, it’s the perfect time to explore all amazing places this country has to offer,” Worthy says. That’s why I’m working with NHTSA to remind you of the importance of driving safely and enjoying every moment of your journey. Now, let me tell you a bit about myself. Maybe you know I’m the fastest player in the NFL. Speed is my game on the field and that’s what helps me make big plays. But off the field when I’m behind the wheel. It’s a different story. I believe in taking my time, savoring every moment and making safety a priority. This summer, let’s make a conscious effort to appreciate the ride, the scenery, and the memories you create along the way. The message is clear, slow down and enjoy the ride.”

Here it is.
