Kevin Harlan made funny joke about how fellow broadcaster couldn’t get into KU
Broadcaster Kevin Harlan is a University of Kansas graduate, and he knows the Jayhawks’ basketball history.
That came in handy Friday when he called the Colorado-Florida game in the first round of the men’s NCAA Tournament.
The Buffaloes are coached by Tad Boyle, a former Jayhawks player.
“(He’s making) his fifth trip to the NCAA Tournament. He played his college basketball at Kansas for Ted Owens and Larry Brown, and he heads the Buffaloes,” Harlan noted.
Fellow broadcaster and former NBA coach Stan Van Gundy then tried to needle Harlan ... and it backfired in a funny way.
“Kevin, you have taught me, right, that Kansas is primarily an academic school,” Van Gundy said.
Without missing a beat, Harlan responded: “It is. Hard to get into, Stan, and my condolences that you did not.”

Harlan and Van Gundy had another great exchange while calling Sunday’s Purdue-Utah State game. This one was set in motion by a promo for a series called “Knuckles” that is coming to Paramount+.
