Royals’ Bobby Witt Jr. got under skin of Vinnie Pasquantino during funny TV interview

Royals first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino was patiently trying to answer a question Wednesday during an in-game interview but he was getting wet.

And it wasn’t raining in Surprise, Arizona.

Teammate Bobby Witt Jr. was throwing water at Pasquantino, and the Pasquatch had finally had enough and stopped talking about his approach at the plate.

“I have to make decisions based off of what he’s doing,” Pasquantino said of opposing pitchers. “So I’m going to be as aggressive as I can be, while still keeping my body and my mind under control. ...

“Bob, If you don’t stop throwing stuff at me, we’re gonna fight in the dugout right now.”

That drew a laugh from Bally Sports Kansas City broadcasters Ryan Lefebvre and Rex Hudler. Lefebvre noted Reggie Sanders, the Royals’ special assistant to baseball operations/leadership development, could lend a hand.

“I mean, what a loser,” Pasquantino quipped about Witt. “Reggie’s keeping him away from me. He knows what’s good for him.”

Later Pasquantino noted that Witt is on a shortlist of protected Kansas Citians.

“There’s two people in Kansas City I don’t think you’re allowed to fight: Patrick Mahomes and Bobby Witt Jr.,” Pasquantino said. “Those are the two, but I’ll do it on live TV right now if I have to if he keeps doing stuff.”

A rumble in the Royals dugout would have made for incredible television viewing, but this was pretty fun, too.
