Following the Chiefs’ 17-9 win at Jacksonville in Week 2, coach Andy Reid mentioned just two wide receivers when talking about injuries.

Kadarius Toney’s left foot was “bothering him a little bit” and Justin Watson was dehydrated.

But as we learned this week, a player on the defensive side of the ball suffered a serious injury that September day: cornerback Jaylen Watson. He shared a message on social media saying he had undergone surgery for a torn labrum, which he says happened in the Jaguars game.

That’s a significant shoulder injury but Watson chose to play through the pain rather than have surgery.

“Surgery was a success I (tore) my labrum in week 2!!” Watson wrote on X. “Was given the option to get surgery or try to play the remainder of the season 5 months later 2x Super Bowl Champ!! A lot of discomfort a lot of pain this year but worth every moment.”

Watson had a key fumble recovery in the Chiefs’ Super Bowl LVIII victory following a muffed punt by the 49ers.
