Justin Reid shared backstory of Chiefs player who left 2023 parade in wheelchair
As the Chiefs prepare for another victory parade, here’s a reminder of what happened a year ago.
Not every player who stepped on a bus for last year’s Super Bowl championship parade made it to the celebration at Union Station.
While on “The Pivot Podcast” in May, Chiefs safety Justin Reid shared what happened to a player, whose name he didn’t reveal. But alcohol was involved.
“The parade happened to fall on my birthday,” Reid said. “So then we’ll go through the parade. You know, we had some of the young dudes that were drinking early. I chose ‘I’m gonna wait until we actually get on the buses before I start drinking’ because you’re gonna be on there for three hours anyway. Some of the young cats talking about why I’m not drinking yet. And I was gonna say by the end of it, you know, they’ve been drinking for six hours.
“Some of them ended up in the medical tent being wheelchaired out, you know what I mean, and having a good time.”
There may have been more than one player who left the parade early, but we know Chiefs defensive back Jaylen Watson was wheeled away from the fun. That’s because he shared a photo on X.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes poked fun at Watson as he reminded him of that humbling moment on Tuesday.
As for Mahomes, temperatures are expected to reach the 60s on Wednesday and there’s a chance we might see him go bare-chested.
Mahomes remembers all too well the “dad bod” comments from a few weeks ago.
“I might have to bring the ‘dad bod’ out,” Mahomes said Tuesday on “The Pat McAfee Show.” “It was a bad angle (in the viral photo), but I thought I might bring it back out.
“No, I’m for sure gonna have a few Coors lattes*. I’m gonna have a good time with my teammates. I know the parade route now, but I enjoy it every time. There’s nothing better than that Super Bowl parade and Kansas City always shows up and shows out.”
*Yep, Mahomes said lattes
