Chiefs reportedly have put their logos up around the Raiders’ practice facility
It’s roughly a 30-minute drive from the Chiefs’ hotel in Henderson, Nevada, to the practice facility they’re using in preparation for Super Bowl LVIII.
The Chiefs players noticed immediately the oddity of where they’re practicing.
“It’s definitely very interesting and seeing all the Raiders logos everywhere,” punter Tommy Townsend said. “But they’ve got a beautiful facility, so hat’s off to them.”
The Chiefs are making themselves at home at the practice facility of an archrival they have faced since both were original members of the American Football League in 1960.
The teams have played 130 times, but this is the first time one franchise has used the other’s facilities. The Chiefs also will be in the Raiders locker room at Allegiant Stadium for the Super Bowl.
During Monday night’s Super Bowl “Opening Night” media showcase, Raiders owner Mark Davis couldn’t have missed the images of Patrick Mahomes and Chris Jones hanging from the rafters at the Raiders’ stadium.
“As I tell everybody, the Chiefs and the 49ers are my two favorite teams,” Davis deadpanned. “So we’re really glad that they’re here.”
When the Raiders were in Oakland, their closest geographic rival was the 49ers.
But the Chiefs-Raiders rivalry is on another level. Despite that, Davis praised Chiefs CEO and chairman Clark Hunt.
“We get along,” Davis said. “We’re not best of friends where we go out and all that stuff, but yeah, Clark’s doing a great job and Jed (York, 49ers chairman) is as well. They’re doing great jobs with their organizations, and they’re class.”
Chiefs players had good things to say about the Raiders training facility, although tight end Blake Bell admitted it was strange to be working out there.
“Pulling up there and going in, it’s beautiful,” Bell said. “We’ve got a good time there, and obviously we’ll be there all week. But, yeah, I’ve got to say it’s kind of weird.”
Chiefs’ alterations?
It may not be so odd to the players now.
The NFL Network’s James Palmer reported the Chiefs have put up “a good amount” of their logos in the Raiders facility.
One can’t help but wonder if any of those Chiefs arrowhead logos are covering up the pirate in a football helmet image.
KC fans would certainly want to see pictures of the Raiders facility if the Chiefs made alterations.
