Chiefs reveal look at Super Bowl LVIII patch, which makes for crowded jersey front
When Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was handed the AFC Championship Trophy on Sunday, he made a point of recognizing an important member of the franchise.
Norma Hunt, who died last June at the age of 85, was married to Lamar Hunt, the Chiefs’ founder and the person for whom the trophy is named.
“We were gonna win this trophy with Norma Hunt’s name on our jersey, we promise you that,” Mahomes told Jim Nantz on CBS during the celebration at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore. “So we went out and got that thing.”
Ahead of the 2023 season, the Chiefs announced they would wear a commemorative patch their jerseys with Norma Hunt’s initials.
“The patch will be worn on the right side of the jersey, serving as a perfect partner to the patch on the jersey’s left side honoring Lamar Hunt and the American Football League,” the Chiefs wrote on their website. “The existing left-side patch was commissioned by the Hunt Family in 2007, and features Lamar’s initials, ‘LH,’ at the center of a football.”
The Chiefs’ captains also have a patch on their jerseys, as you can see in this photo of Mahomes.
That’s a full jersey front and now the Chiefs are adding Super Bowl LVIII patches. Those were revealed Tuesday.
Here is how it will look for Mahomes and the other captains in Super Bowl LVIII. That captain patch has been moved to the other side of the jersey.
