Patrick Mahomes’ postgame speech to Chiefs: ‘They got what they asked for!’
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was acutely aware of what Bills offensive tackle Dion Dawkins said to the media ahead of Sunday’s AFC Divisional playoff game.
Mahomes had faced the Bills just once in Orchard Park, New York, but it came during the pandemic and fans weren’t in the stands. In Dawkins’ mind that wasn’t a real Bills home game.
“So he’s never been here. Simple as that,” Dawkins said of Mahomes, per ESPN. “Pat has never been to the Bills stadium in full. ... The environment will be different, and not to say it’s in our favor, but stadium is our favor. Stadium is us. That helps us. I don’t care what nobody says. This is the most dopest feeling I’ve ever had. We’re having two back-to-back playoff games home. Come on now, like we get to leave and go eat wings. It’s cool. So good luck.”
After the Chiefs’ 27-24 win, Mahomes shared photos from the game and his celebration afterward in an Instagram post. His message: “Good luck.”
That wasn’t the only time Mahomes referenced the Bills’ perceived belief that they had a homefield advantage Sunday.
NFL Films shared video of what Mahomes told teammates following the game, and he said: “They asked for it! And they got what they asked for!”
Here is the video from the Chiefs locker room after the game and it begins with coach Andy Reid’s message for the team.
