Kevin Harlan had a hilarious call of Chiefs fan who caught Tua Tagovailoa’s pass

This sort of thing happens all the time at Kauffman Stadium, but it’s rarely done across the Truman Sports Complex parking lot.

However, a Chiefs fan came away with a great keepsake on Saturday night thanks to a ball that ended up in the stands.

Late in the Chiefs’ 26-7 win over the Dolphins, Miami quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was under pressure from the Chiefs’ Mike Edwards and George Karlaftis, and Tagovailoa threw the ball away.

That happens all the time, right? But this throwaway ended up in the stands, something that is extremely rare.

Kevin Harlan, the University of Kansas graduate and former Chiefs radio voice, was calling Saturday night’s game for Westwood One, and he was tickled by the play. Harlan’s voice continued to rise as he saw a fan had caught the ball.

Here is how he described the, uh, action.

“Tagovailoa gets the shotgun snap, the blitz is on, he gets away from Edwards, he is grabbed by Karlaftis, he just heaves the ball wildly down the near sideline and out into the stands is where he threw it. And heaved it, and somebody caught it there,” Harlan said.

“That guy is big! That guy is jolly! And the guy has got ski goggles on and he caught that pass!”

Analyst Ross Tucker said with a laugh, “And he’s rocking the Tony Gonzalez jersey. ... That was one of the coolest throwaways I’ve ever seen. He spun, he broke a tackle from Karlaftis, he was outside of the pocket and he wanted to make sure he got back to the line of scrimmage so he heaved it in into the third row.”

This is great.
