The meaning behind Chiefs safety Justin Reid’s cat meme about Bengals’ Ja’Marr Chase
The Chiefs’ 2024 regular-season opponents are nearly set, as division races in the AFC East and South will decide the final two foes KC will face.
We already know the divisional rotation means the Chiefs will play AFC North teams next season. And that means the Cincinnati Bengals will be back at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
That likely means we’ll hear more of what Bengals receiver Ja’Marr Chase thinks of the Chiefs later this year. He’s not shy about sharing his opinions, and ahead of Sunday’s game, Chase said the Chiefs’ secondary wasn’t special.
The Chiefs heard those comments and shared a few of their own in the locker room following their 25-17 win Sunday.
Some Chiefs players also took to social media to express their thoughts on Chase.
Cornerback Jaylen Watson noted Chase had three catches for 41 yards, as L’Jarius Sneed continued his strong season.
Safety Mike Edwards shared this.
Fellow safety Justin Reid posted a meme of a cat eating from a can on X (née Twitter).
Fans may wonder what that meme is about, but Reid absolutely was directing that at Chase. It goes back to trash talking between Reid and Chase ahead of their 2022 regular-season game in Cincinnati.
Chase ended the talk with a message on X that simply said, “Tuna ina can.” Since then, Bengals fans have been responding to Reid’s comments on social media by calling him tuna.
Here is that conversation from 2022.
There are lots of theories about what “tuna in a can” means. Some think it’s cat food for the Bengals (tigers), but many other explanations can’t be shared here.
Regardless of the meaning, Reid was definitely referencing the “tuna in a can” comment following the Chiefs’ victory Sunday over Chase and the Bengals.
