Chiefs coach Andy Reid is known for his creative play-calling, especially on screen passes.

Fans saw that on display during the first quarter of Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium on this 48-yard pass by the Chiefs.

Tight end Travis Kelce and receivers Kadarius Toney and Rashee Rice were lined up to the right side when quarterback Patrick Mahomes took a snap. The three pass-catchers all ran to their left after the snap, and New England’s defenders followed them.

Running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire moved to his right and took a screen pass. Edwards-Helaire had plenty of room to run as no Patriots defenders were in his field of view.

What Edwards-Helaire did see were offensive lineman Trey Smith, Creed Humphrey and Joe Thuney, who had no one to block for at least 30 yards.

This was the biggest gainer of the first half for the Chiefs, and the drive ended with a touchdown.

That touchdown was a pretty nice design, too. Running back Jerick McKinnon threw a scoring pass to Rice.
