Actress Julia Roberts stars in the new movie, “Leave The World Behind,” which is a thriller-drama with a touch of science fiction.

So it’s only natural that while talking about the movie Roberts would mention ... Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. OK, that actually seems oddly off-topic, but Roberts really did sing Mahomes’ praises during an interview on SiriusXM’s “The Jess Cagle Show.”

Roberts has watched the Netflix docuseries “Quarterback” starring Mahomes, and she came away with a newfound respect for the Chiefs star.

“I’m watching a lot of documentary things,” Roberts said. “I mean, I love documentaries, but I watched this documentary series, ‘Quarterback.’ It has changed my life, I think. Because I’m a big football fan. But this has given me an insight, like I have so much respect right now for Patrick Mahomes, I don’t know what to do with it. There’s really not a place for me to put it on a daily basis.”

Roberts asked director Sam Esmail if he’s seen “Quarterback,” but he hadn’t even heard of it.

“You’ve got to see it, then let’s just get back together,” Roberts said.

Roberts apparently was impressed with the work Mahomes does off the field.

“The quarterback, you think like, ‘Oh, he shows up and throws the ball around.’ I mean, that’s what I thought,” she said. “That’s wrong. I felt a kinship because I feel like my homework when I’m working it never ends. There’s always some other elements, some other thing to learn, to figure out, to get ready for to, you know, whatever it is, and so I kind of felt like I understand you, Patrick Mahomes.”

Roberts, who won the 2001 Best Actress Academy Award for her work in ‘”Erin Brockovich,” is a 49ers fan, but admitted the Chiefs are right behind on her list of favorites.

That means you can add Roberts to the list of celebrities who have professed to liking the Chiefs over the past 18 months, joining Taylor Swift, Morgan Freeman and Henry Winkler.

Here is the clip of Roberts talking about Mahomes.
