After two-TD loss, Raiders cornerback asserts his team is better than the Chiefs
This was Raiders cornerback Amik Robertson’s stat line Sunday: three tackles in the Chiefs’ 31-17 win at Las Vegas and one odd postgame comment.
After falling behind by two touchdowns Sunday at Allegiant Stadium, the Chiefs scored a touchdown on three straight drives and ended up winning comfortably.
The loss didn’t sit well with Robertson, who is in his fourth season with the Raiders and has seen the Chiefs win each year in Las Vegas.
“We’ve lost a couple games but for some reason, you know for me, this one just hurt because I know we’re better than that team,” Robertson said in a video shared on X by Gilberto Obregón of News 8 in Las Vegas. “I know we got more dogs, I know we’re better than that team.”
Robertson was asked if his feeling was shared by others in the Raiders locker room.
“Of course, a lot of competitive guys. We put the work in,” Robertson said. “We know we’re better than that team.”
Mahomes-Crosby talk
Just a few days before kickoff of Sunday’s game, Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby was doubtful to play because of an injury.
But Crosby not only played, he got a sack of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Crosby and Mahomes have a colorful history, and they were asked about each other after the game.
Mahomes was asked where Crosby ranks among pass rushers he’s faced in his career.
“I mean, he’s at the top of the list. He’s a dog,” Mahomes said, per quotes from the Raiders. “The fact that he played today, it speaks to who he is. Not just because he’s getting sacks, but because he wants to be out there for his teammates. That’s the type of guys that you want on your team, and I have a ton of respect for him.
“Obviously, people see us trash talking, but I think that’s just the competitors that both of us are. But I know every single time I go up against him, he’s going to give everything he has, and I’m going to do the same. And it’s going to be a great battle to the end.”
Crosby was told about Mahomes’ respect and was asked if the feeling was mutual.
“No question. Like I’ve said many times, he’s the best in the game and we go against each other twice a year,” Crosby said. “We have our back and forth and things like that. But at the end of the day, it’s respect. When you see another great one across from you, you know what time it is. So, every time he brings the best out of me and vice versa.
“So, I have a ton of love for him, regardless. It doesn’t change how I’m approaching him; I’m trying to hunt him down every time I go out there. But he knows that and he respects it, and it goes both ways. So, yeah, I have a ton of respect for him.”
