Chiefs’ Travis Kelce shares details of dinner date with Taylor Swift in Argentina
Tight end Travis Kelce traveled abroad during the Chiefs’ bye week, as he jetted down to Argentina to catch a concert.
A Taylor Swift concert. You may have heard about it.
Kelce made headlines for the trip to see Swift, his girlfriend, for a variety of reasons: their public kiss, her “Karma” song and Swift’s father wearing a Chiefs lanyard.
On the latest episode of the “New Heights” podcast, Kelce shared details and insights of his trip to Buenos Aires and the shows at Estadio River Plate Stadium.
“For those of you who haven’t seen all the videos of me on your TikTok and your Instagram feed,” Kelce said, “I was enjoying myself down there in Buenos Aires. The show was even more electric knowing that I had a little bit more to enjoy it for, and yeah, Taylor absolutely ripped it. She killed it and it looked like she was having some fun up there.”
Here are the highlights
On the first show being postponed because of bad weather.
“Got down there hoping I was going to see Taylor’s first or I guess second show but it got rained out, really it got thunder and lightninged out,” Kelce said. “It got postponed because the entire stage is a LED screen, so lightning and electronics don’t mesh very well.
“She wasn’t too happy about it obviously. She kind of prides herself on performing through weather or rain and things like that. But when it’s unsafe to her and her crew and everybody in the stadium, you’ve got to do what you got to do. But it wasn’t canceled. It was postponed, as she noted, and you know what, I think everybody was accommodated for whoever missed on Friday to go on Sunday. And sure enough, I think it ended up being perfect.”
On how Kelce and Swift spent their time together.
“We got some good food, man. had some empanadas and steak,” Kelce said. “They’re big on all the different cuts of meat. Got some good steak down there, man. Yeah, it was the first night I was there, really the only night we had a chance to go to dinner was the night the show got postponed. So we didn’t want to just go and have a blast throughout the city like we didn’t care about the show. So we made sure we stayed in the hotel and kind of kept to ourselves.”
On Swift changing the lyrics to “Karma” to be about Kelce.
“I had no clue that, well, I might have had a little bit of a clue but definitely when I heard it come out of her mouth, it still shocked me and oh she really just said that,” Kelce said.
Jason Kelce noted that Travis was so shocked he missed a chance to give Scott Swift, Taylor’s father, a high-five.
“Mr. Swift, I apologize, big guy,” Kelce said. “Man, I missed that. I never miss a high-five, too. Big high-five guy. It’s the most electric thing you can do at an event, so sorry Mr. Swift.”
On getting Scott Swift, who is an Eagles fan, to wear Chiefs colors.
Jason Kelce joked: “What are we doing, Scott? You’re gonna let this man’s devilishly good looks and relationship with your daughter sway you from a lifetime of fandom, Scott. That’s ridiculous.”
Travis said: “I might have persuaded him at dinner the night before when I met him. Maybe, who knows? He’s a huge football guy. He played college ball I believe a year at Hawaii and a year or two or I forget how long he was at Delaware. But I think he was a linebacker turned center.”
