Shortly after retiring following Super Bowl LVII, former Chiefs quarterback Chad Henne revealed an odd story during an interview with ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Henne said Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has worn the same pair of red underwear for every game.

As in, every single game.

Mahomes joined ESPN’s “ManningCast” for the Broncos-Bills game and was asked about Henne’s story. He confirmed the story is true.

“First, my wife Brittany got them for me, so I’m not throwing you all down, but I have to wear them,” Mahomes said. “At the same time, I threw them on that first season, we had a pretty good season that season.

“I only wear them for game day though, so they’re not too worn down, they’re not like these nasty (underwear), I clean them. I wash them every once in a while at least. I mean if we’re on a hot streak, I can’t wash them, you know? I’ve just got to keep it rolling. As long as we’re winning. I’ll keep the superstition going.”

Mahomes has a career record of 82-21 (including the playoffs), so that’s a lot of games with the same underwear. But it’s also a lot of victories, too, so you can’t blame Mahomes for sticking with what works.

Here are some other highlights from Mahomes’ visit to the ESPN show.

Numbers game

Mahomes also said the Chiefs spend a lot of time leading up to a game memorizing the numbers of opposing players. That’s because of a recent change that allows more players to wear single digits.

Nostradamus Pat

At one point, Eli and Peyton Manning asked Mahomes to diagnose how the Broncos would try to stop the Bills on a third-down play.

Mahomes nailed it.

Later he went three for three on Broncos playcalls. When his playing days are over, maybe Mahomes will have a career as a network game analyst.

Silent counts

Mahomes gave his insight on when the Chiefs have used a silent count during his career.

The Maxx Crosby moment

In the Netflix docuseries “Quarterback,” fans saw a clip of Mahomes going facemask to facemask with the Raiders star Maxx Crosby. Mahomes used some, uh, adult language, which he amended Monday night.
