While some Kansas City fans hoped for a Halloween present in the form of a Chiefs deal at the NFL trade deadline, it didn’t happen.

One wide receiver was traded on Tuesday: The Lions sent a 2025 sixth-round pick to the Browns for Donovan Peoples-Jones, NBC Sports reported.

The Chiefs, 6-2, declined to make a move, which wasn’t a surprise a pair of NFL Network reporters.

James Palmer and Mike Garafolo on Tuesday discussed why Chiefs general manager Brett Veach felt the team didn’t need to make a move for a wide receiver.

Palmer said the Chiefs believe the receiving corps will get better as the season continues, while also acknowledging there has been “sloppy” play.

“I think things started circulating with the Chiefs because of the way the performance of the wide receiver position has been over the last couple of weeks,” Palmer said. “And the way it was last week, specifically against the Broncos. I think you ask all Chiefs fans everywhere (and) they said, ‘Brett Veach, just sign DeAndre Hopkins. It’s easy, it’s a layup, just bring him in.’

“But from what I was told (it was), ‘We’re not really going to do anything at the deadline.’ We know the way Brett Veach likes to stockpile (draft) picks. We know the way he likes to focus on the draft, getting cheaper, younger talent around these star players that are making a lot of money in Kansas City. They believe they just had been sloppy over the last couple of weeks with the receivers. They still think they’re going to turn the corner. They were never really in the market on trying to make a play at that position.”

Garafolo said the Chiefs like the makeup of their team.

“Yep, the Chiefs trust their talent, they trust their quarterback, they trust their defense, which is playing really well under defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo right now,” Garafolo said. “So they feel like they have enough right now, the makings of a team that goes where they usually go in the postseason.”
