Mitch Holthus sneaked in reference to local grocery store on Chiefs’ game-winning play

The best defense for a “Hail Mary” play is making sure the quarterback never has an opportunity to throw the pass.

Chiefs defensive lineman Mike Danna proved that on the final play of Sunday’s 27-20 win over the Minnesota Vikings at U.S. Bank Stadium.

The Vikings had the ball at the Chiefs’ 38-yard line with one final play left to be run.

Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce came on to patrol the end zone, and it was just the fourth defensive snap of his 11-season career. But Kelce didn’t get the chance for his first-ever interception because Danna sacked Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins.

Mitch Holthus, the radio voice of the Chiefs, was so excited about Danna’s sack that he worked in a reference to Hy-Vee’s online shopping option, Aisles Online.

This was Holthus’ call: “Cousins trying to be harassed, stepping up he’s sacked! And that will be that! A sack of groceries to take home. It’s a grab and go. Aisles Online. Take it and run with it. A sack by Mike Danna to end the game and the Kansas City Chiefs have their first win in the Twin Cities since 1996.”

X user Clay Wendler shared a clip of Holthus’ call of that game-ending play and Kelce’s touchdown catch.
