NBC’s Rodney Harrison tried unsuccessfully to get Chiefs’ Chris Jones to bash Jets QB
It’s unusual to hear a national NFL broadcaster call a player “garbage,” but that’s what NBC Sports’ Rodney Harrison did Sunday following the Chiefs’ 23-20 win over the Jets.
Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones joined the Peacock postgame show and Harrison asked if Jets quarterback Zach Wilson looked better than expected. It seemed that Harrison was trying to get Jones to say something derogatory about Wilson.
Here’s how the exchange went.
Harrison: “Was Zach better tonight than what you anticipated he would be watching him on tape? You can be honest.”
Jones: “Honestly, if I’m being completely honest, we knew it was gonna be a battle. He’s continuing to get better week in and week out, and he’s continuing to lead week in and week out.”
Harrison: “But watching that tape man, you’ve got to look at this dude and say oh he is garbage, we should really tear him apart.”
Jones: “Like I said, Zach Wilson is special, you’ve just got to give the guy time.”
Harrison: “Wait, wait, wait, did you say Zach Wilson is special? I think he had a special night but I don’t think he’s special.”
Here is the postgame chat.
And here is more of Jones praising Wilson, who was the second overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Wilson completed 28 of 39 passes for 245 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions against the Chiefs.
And he made history against Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Opta Stats shared this wild note after the game: “Zach Wilson of the @nyjets is the only opposing QB to have more completions, more passing yards, more TD passes and fewer interceptions than Patrick Mahomes in a Mahomes start, college or pro (out of 127 total starts, including postseason).”
