Jets’ Zach Wilson responds to comment from Chiefs’ Willie Gay that went viral
If you had Chiefs linebacker Willie Gay going viral on your Bingo card this week, you’re a winner.
Gay was asked Wednesday what stands out to him when he watches tape of quarterback Zach Wilson and the Jets offense.
Although many people say Gay laughed, he simply smiled while considering the question.
“That was a hard question. I can’t lie,” Gay said. “A team that wants to run the ball.
“That wasn’t to be funny or anything, but A-Rod got hurt, and it turned into a team where, like, panic mode almost. That’s what I see at least. They got great running backs, so now they’re just trying to pound it. Pound and ground.”
Here is the video from KSHB-TV’s Aaron Ladd. It went viral with more than 5 million views.
Aaron Rodgers was injured on the Jets’ first offensive series of the season and Wilson, the second overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft, is now the starter. Wilson has completed just 52.4% of his passes for 467 yards in three games. He has four interceptions and two touchdown passes.
Wilson is 34th in the NFL in quarterback rating (57.0), which is dead last, according to Pro Football Reference. The Jets offense ranks 32nd in the NFL in scoring (14 points a game).
A reporter on Thursday asked Wilson about what Gay said.
“I didn’t even see what he said,” Wilson said before a reporter filled him in.
“That’s fine,” he added. “We are working to improve and get better. He is a great player, but he is obviously the competition, too, so I can see why he has those comments, but we will be ready as an offense.”
Here is the video of Wilson from Harrison Glaser of Take Flight Media.
This will likely get mentioned during the “Sunday Night Football” coverage from MetLife Stadium.
