Travis Kelce is thrilled that Chris Jones returned to Chiefs: ‘I get my friend back’
Eagles center Jason Kelce dared to dream big.
As Kelce noted on this week’s “New Heights” podcast, he was sort of hoping Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones’ holdout would last through Week 11 of the NFL season.
That’s when the Eagles play the Chiefs, but Kelce didn’t get his wish because Jones ended his holdout this week and is back at practice.
Kelce’s podcast co-host is Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. No surprise, but this Kelce is thrilled Jones agreed to a one-year contract.
“I get my friend back in the building, man. I get my dog back, man,” Travis Kelce said. “Baby Shaq, man. You just miss that guy’s aura when he’s not around, you know what I mean?”
Travis Kelce had made a plea for Jones to return in the previous podcast episode, but he admitted that had nothing to do with his teammate’s decision.
“All I heard is we got Chris Jones back for a year,” Travis Kelce said, “and hopefully they can figure something out after this season to keep him as long as I’m here, you know what I mean?”
Jason Kelce said Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagunolo must have jumped for joy upon hearing of Jones’ return.
As it turns out, Travis Kelce is the one who jumped for joy. A video from Wednesday’s practice showed Kelce jog over to greet defensive tackle Chris Jones, jumping into his teammate. There were no issues with Kelce’s landing, which is a good sign that his injured knee has improved.
Jones then wrapped up the 6-foot-5, 250-pound Kelce in a big hug. That’s no easy task for, say, you and me. But Jones is 6-6 and 310 pounds.
Aaron Ladd, a sports anchor at KSHB (Ch. 41), shared video of the cool moment from the Chiefs practice field, and it went viral among Chiefs fans.
