Fans of the movie “Raiders of the Lost Ark” may have seen a familiar scene play out in the Chiefs’ season opener against the Detroit Lions.

During the desert chase, in which Indy gets back the Ark of the Covenant, one Nazi is run over by a truck driven by Indiana Jones.

Lions running back David Montgomery wasn’t hit by a truck during Thursday’s game at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. But that’s how it looked when he was crushed by Chiefs linebacker Nick Bolton during the third quarter.

Bolton was rushing the passer and ran over Montgomery, who was trying to block.

Making matters worse for Montgomery was what happened after his back hit the ground. Montgomery’s legs shot up and he tripped Bolton, which resulted in a penalty.

The Lions ended up punting on the drive but came away with the 21-20 victory.

One positive about the loss from the Chiefs’ perspective: Bolton and the defense only allowed a pair of touchdowns in the game.

However, Bolton wasn’t satisfied.

“We lost the football game, and I think that’s where you measure yourself at — especially in this league,” he told reporters after the game. “Games are won in inches and in a couple situations down the stretch, and we didn’t execute well enough. You can say that we gave up 14 points and that’s a good start and all that, but ultimately we lost the football game.

“Our goal was to come out of here 1-0 this week, and it didn’t happen. Back to the drawing board, the guys will be better and ready to go for Jacksonville.”
