This will be a fascinating Big 12 football season.

The Oklahoma Sooners and Texas Longhorns will play one more scholastic year in the Big 12 Conference before departing for the Southeastern Conference.

Fans of the schools that are remaining in the conference are eager to see their teams beat the Longhorns and Sooners one final time before exiting the Big 12.

Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark made it clear Wednesday he’s happy to see the schools leave.

After Oklahoma and Texas announced they’d be joining the SEC, the exit date was set for July 1, 2025. That’s been moved up a year, which is what Yormark wanted.

Speaking at a Red Raider Club kickoff luncheon in Lubbock, Yormark told Texas Tech fans about the Sooners and Longhorns.

“Candidly, we were able to get Texas and Oklahoma out (of the Big 12) a year early,” Yormark said. “That was a big deal for us and I think all of you.”

Yormark then addressed Texas Tech football coach Joey McGuire, and mentioned the Red Raiders’ win over Texas last season (they also beat the Sooners).

“And coach, I’m not going to put any pressure on you, but I’m going to be in Austin on Thanksgiving,” Yormark said. “And you better take care of business like you did right here in Lubbock last year.”

Yormark’s comments didn’t sit well with many Sooners and Longhorns fans. This is a small sample of what was being said.
