The NFL’s Top 100 list is voted on by the players, and fans learned who some of the league’s top defensive ends picked for No. 1 overall.

In a video shared by the NFL, the Commanders’ Jonathan Allen, Panthers’ Brian Burns, Saints’ Cameron Jordan and Raiders’ Maxx Crosby all chose Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes as the best player.

So did Washington wide receiver Terry McLaurin and Lions quarterback Jared Goff.

It was little surprise that Mahomes was first overall in the NFL Top 100 as he won the league’s MVP award and helped the Chiefs beat the Eagles in Super Bowl LVII.

Mahomes’ gutty performance in that Super Bowl, when he played after his ankle was reinjured, impressed Goff.

“Yeah, pretty gritty. Pretty gritty,” Goff says in the video. “And I think as quarterbacks we want to do everything we can to be on the field, and in a moment like that for him to be out there and play through that, I think speaks to who he is.”

That video shows Mahomes being informed he finished first in the voting by his peers.

“That’s awesome. I appreciate it. I never take it for granted,” Mahomes said. “There’s so many great players in this league and for the players to vote me as No. 1 player is definitely an accomplishment that I always will have.”

Mahomes then was given a big trophy with a No. 1 on it.

Mahomes noted there is some heft to the trophy, which was inscribed with the words: “NFL Top 100 #1 Player 2023 as voted by his peers.” He then was asked who he thinks will be voted No. 1 in 2024.

“Who I think is going to be No. 1? I’m hoping I still hold that crown,” Mahomes said.
