Chiefs announce 2023 flags will be available for purchase Wednesday in special presale
The Chiefs will kick off the 2023 NFL season with a Sept. 7 game against the Lions at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
That’s a Thursday, which means the usual Red Friday celebration to mark the start of the football season will be held on a different day of the week. The Chiefs announced special Red Wednesday festivities will take place on Sept. 6.
The start of the season means a new team flag will be going on sale, and this year’s version will have “a special championship design to honor the team’s victory in Super Bowl LVII,” the Chiefs said.
Fans will get a peek at the design Wednesday when the Chiefs share it on their website and social media accounts.
The flags will be available for purchase in a special presale Wednesday starting at 1 p.m. Central time at the online Chiefs Pro Shop. The Chiefs said a limited quantity of the flags will be made available at that time.
“Flags purchased as part of the presale will cost $10,” the team said in a news release. “There is a special free shipping offer for all flags purchased during the Wednesday presale, while any presale purchases after Wednesday – should flags remain available – will be subject to shipping charges.”
Fans in the Kansas City and St. Joseph areas also will be able to buy the flags on Red Wednesday at McDonald’s restaurants. The cost will be $5 with net proceeds going to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kansas City.
Fans will also be able to purchase the flags at Hy-Vee stores on Sept. 6 or at the Chiefs Team Store (for $10, plus shipping).
The Chiefs said more than $4.5 million has been raised for Ronald McDonald House Charities through the sale of the flags over the previous nine years.
