Although there was no word Thursday on a deal or an impasse in the Chiefs’ negotiations with star defensive tackle Chris Jones, it was still a noteworthy day.

For starters, ESPN’s Dianna Russini was on “The Pat McAfee Show” and gave insights on how talks between the team and Jones have gone.

Russini mentioned she keeps in contact with sources on the Chiefs.

“I had a conversation with someone this morning that’s involved in negotiations and they still feel really optimistic they are going to get it done,” Russini said. “The number Chris Jones wants is, it’s a big number, it’s a big number.

“But the Chiefs, every conversation I have had with them over the last few months has been nothing but understanding his value, understanding his role on this team, we want to get this done, we feel good we are going to get this done, we are optimistic. That’s one of those where I think it feels a little icky right now, but I think it’s going to work out by the time we get to at least the third, fourth week of camp here.”

Also on Thursday, Jones shared an Instagram story with a line from a song called “Walls Talking” by Kevin Gates.

Jones, who has been holding out of training camp, highlighted the lyric “Guess all good things must come to an end.”

As you can imagine that didn’t make Chiefs fans happy.

One of Jones’ former teammates chimed in on social media with a funny message.

Defensive end Frank Clark, who signed with the Denver Broncos during the offseason, must have seen some of the talk about Jones’ latest social-media post.

“Lemme go call Chris,” Clark wrote on Twitter, “and see how his day going.”

Broncos fans hoped that meant Clark could convince Jones to join him in Denver, but the reality is Jones has one year left on his contract. Others simply laughed at Clark’s joke.

Russini said on McAfee’s show there have been some unexpected twists during Jones’ holdout.

“Going back to the ring ... ceremony I attended with the Chiefs a few months ago ... and talking to them, they were like ‘we will get it done’, Andy (Reid) was like ‘Chris will show up’, and then he didn’t show up,” Russini said. “That threw a wrench, they weren’t expecting him not to show up. That’s where it did get a little off track.

“But the sense I get, it will get done, Chris wants to be there, they want Chris there. Look, could it go off track? Yeah, of course. I’ve seen it happen.”
