The Major League Baseball trade deadline is at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, but the Royals beat the rush by making a pair of deals over the previous two days.

Relief pitcher José Cuas was traded to the Chicago Cubs on Monday night, a little more than 24 hours after infielder Nicky Lopez was shipped to the Atlanta Braves.

Lopez, who was drafted by the Royals in the fifth round of the 2016 Major League Baseball draft, made his big-league debut in 2019. He appeared in 519 career games with the Royals.

After the deal was announced, Lopez wrote a sweet farewell message that he shared on Twitter.

“I can’t take you enough for taking a chance on me in 2016,” Lopez wrote. “You allowed me to live my dream in 2019 and for that I am grateful. From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank you for taking such great care of me and my family. We will always remember KC. With that said, I am blessed and humbled for the opportunity that lies ahead with Atlanta! Let’s go, Braves!”

Royals fans shared their own messages of support forLopez in response to what he had written.

Here is a sample of those responses from fans.
