Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce issued an apology Saturday after getting upset with a teammate for a second straight day at training camp in St. Joseph.

On Friday, Kelce and defensive back Dicaprio Bootle shoved each other after a play.

The next day, Kelce caught a touchdown pass and linebacker Jack Cochrane tried punching the ball away. Kelce took a swing at Cochrane.

Former Chiefs offensive lineman Mitchell Schwartz, who was a teammate of Kelce’s, shared a message on Twitter explaining why he believes Kelce became angry.

“I think Travis has had enough with defenders trying to punch/rip the ball out,” Schwartz wrote on Saturday. “We saw him get feisty yesterday with the 4th defender that tried it on one play, and now after he’s fully secured the catch in the end zone.”

Schwartz, who retired following the 2020 season, played with Kelce for five seasons in Kansas City.

When a fan asked why Kelce was acting in that manner, Schwartz replied: “He doesn’t want to get punched in the hands by a backup after the play is over”

Another fan asked if defensive players were being asked to try and force Kelce into turnovers.

Here is how Schwartz responded: “All defenses are taught this in practice. Turnovers are a point of emphasis and after the first guy ‘wraps up’ the ball carrier they want everyone swarming to the ball and ripping it out. (Reporter) @mattderrick noted the frequency with which he’s seen it so far for everyone, not just Kelce.”
