There are a handful of teams in the NFL that enter the 2023 season with a Super Bowl-or-bust mentality.

The Cincinnati Bengals, who have appeared in the last two AFC Championship Games and Super Bowl LVI, are one of those teams.

Cincinnati is seen by many as one of the Chiefs’ main challengers in the AFC.

But on Thursday, Bengals fans everywhere were holding their breath when quarterback Joe Burrow went down on a non-contact play at Cincinnati’s training-camp practice.

Burrow took a snap and rolled to his right when he pulled up with an injury, which Bengals coach Zac Taylor told reporters identified as a right “calf injury.”

Here is the play, from James Rapien of the All Bengals blog.

Here is Burrow being taken off the field on a cart via Cincinnati Enquirer reporter Kelsey Conway, who called it “massive news.”

Here are photos of Burrow on the cart at Bengals practice.

Burrow, 26, finished fourth in NFL MVP voting last season after throwing for 4,475 yards with 35 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

Taylor met with reporters shortly after Burrow was left the practice field.

“I just saw his calf,” Taylor said. “It was 10 minutes ago, so we don’t have any more information than that.”

Burrow was wearing a sleeve over his right calf at practice, and Taylor said Burrow wore it for the first time on Thursday.

“I think a lot of guys after the first day had some soreness and that’s it,” Taylor said.

The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Burrow had a calf strain.
