Royals fans may have noticed a new Bally Sports Kansas City campaign that features Hall of Famer Randy Johnson — and beer.

The “Short Boy Summer” commercials are a nod to Major League Baseball’s introduction of the pitch clock, which has resulted in shorter games this season.

Bally Sports is offering what it calls “a shorter price” for the Bally Sports+ streaming service. Royals fans can sign up for $14.99, which is $5 less than the regular price.

Here’s the commercial with Johnson (and the bird flying through the shot has to be intentional).

The beer cans in the commercial are 8.4 ounce cans, and can be purchased locally.

The network partnered with Kansas City’s City Barrel Brewery, which is selling wheat ale in those branded cans. A six-packs costs $6.99.

City Barrel co-owner Joe Giammanco wrote in an email about how the partnership came to be.

“We had a really neat opportunity to team up with Bally Sports,” Giammanco wrote. “The promo was great as they were really focused on serving a local market, this meant seeking out and coordinating with a single brewery in each market, listening to the brewery on what beer flavor and style would be successful for an 8 oz Short Boy can. We were chosen because of our brand style and then our brewery team’s ability to execute a custom product branded under Bally Sports.”

Giammanco said the special line of beer took some time to get ready.

“Bally Sports was understanding of the logistics needed, such as engineering changes to our canning line, the time frame for beer production, and the challenges of working with new vendors,” Giammanco said. “A campaign like this with local breweries of our size has never been done to our knowledge.”
