Royals catcher Salvador Perez provided the American League a spark during Tuesday’s All-Star Game in Seattle.

Perez replaced Shohei Ohtani* as the American League’s designated hitter in the sixth inning and singled after former Royal Whit Merrifield opened the frame with an out.

*You’ve probably heard of the Angels star, right?

Perez went to third on a double by another former Royals player, Oakland’s Brent Rooker. Toronto’s Bo Bichette then hit a sacrifice fly that brought home Perez and gave the American League a 2-1 lead.

Unfortunately for the AL, the National League scored twice in the eighth inning and rallied for a 3-2 victory.

But it was a good couple of days for Perez, who made some interesting fashion choices.

First there were his shoes, which were a nice nod to the Royals and his native Venezuela.

During Monday’s Home Run Derby, Perez had the perfect jacket that caught the attention of fans. This had the names of all the participants of the derby.

Perez on Monday joined “Intentional Talk” on the MLB Network and spoke about the All-Star Game experience.

“It’s amazing, especially for our family,” Perez said. “I think my mom is proud of me today. Every time we get the opportunity to come here and enjoy this, coming to the All-Star Game, getting the opportunity for two days to meet guys that maybe you don’t talk to during the season, so it’s amazing. It’s a great time to be here.”

Perez said his brother, mom, three kids and wife joined him in Seattle.

Here is when Perez was introduced prior to Tuesday’s game.
