Minor-league baseball player tries to draw a basketball foul before being tagged out
This is a most unusual sports mash-up.
During a Double-A game Saturday between the Arkansas Travelers and Wichita Wind Surge, one player tried a basketball move when he was about to be tagged out.
Travelers third baseman Robbie Tenerowicz hit a grounder to his counterpart on the Wind Surge.
The throw from Wichita’s Yunior Severino was off the mark and first baseman Seth Gray caught the ball next to the bag, just as Tenerowicz was arriving.
Tenerowicz backpeddled, then turned and ran toward the plate. This wasn’t a little league game, so Tenerowicz knew he couldn’t run all the way back to the batter’s box.
And so, Tenerowicz stopped and seemed resigned to his fate as the final out of the sixth inning.
Then Tenerowicz did something you don’t ever see in a baseball game: he mimicked shooting a basketball. Tenerowicz took it a step further as he initiated contact and looked at the umpire for a foul call (the basketball kind).
It didn’t come, but Tenerowicz was called out, and the fans in Wichita seemed to appreciate the effort of the opposing player.
This was a funny moment.
