Patrick Mahomes paid a visit to CBS Sports broadcaster Jim Nantz’s home in 2020, and the Chiefs quarterback had one thing in mind.

To get his name on a rock in the backyard.

Nantz has a par-3 golf hole in the yard, and it’s a replica of the seventh hole at Pebble Beach. There’s also a rock at the tee box with the names of all the people who have had a hole-in-one.

While he came close, Mahomes didn’t get the hole-in-one that day. On Saturday, Mahomes will try his luck at a hole-in-one with significantly more on the line than having his name engraved in stone.

Mahomes is in Hawaii for his annual Aloha Golf Classic at Hōkūli’a. He’ll try for the hole-in-one. If he’s successful, the livestream shopping platform Whatnot will donate $1 million to Mahomes’ foundation, 15 and the Mahomies.

“I’m excited to open up the event for anyone to experience it live through Whatnot,” Mahomes said in a news release. “This event and the cause it supports is so important to me, so I’m eager to finally get the chance to bring all of my supporters along while I attempt a hole-in-one.”

Mahomes will get 25 attempts to make the ace, and even if he comes up short, his charity should receive a donation. Here is how things will break down, per Whatnot.

  • Hits a hole-in-one: Whatnot will make the $1 million contribution, and a fan watching will receive a Mahomes trading card valued at $40,000

  • Gets within 10 feet of the hole: Whatnot will donate $10,000 and give a $12,000 card to a viewer

  • Hits the green, Whatnot will donate $5,000 and give a Prizm pack of cards worth $500 to a viewer

Each prize will be cumulative, Whatnot said, so Mahomes can hit a combination of the above to win more money for his foundation.

How to watch

Mahomes’ hole-in-one attempts will be streamed on the Whatnot app, which can be downloaded on iOS and Android. You also can watch here.

The event begins at 8 p.m. Central on Saturday.

Whatnot said it will accept tips from viewers during the livestream with the money going to the 15 and the Mahomes Foundation.
