In addition to teaching, Travis Kelce says he’s learned a lot at Tight End University

With the Chiefs’ minicamp in the books, tight end Travis Kelce is focused on his second job this week as an instructor.

Tight End University is taking place in Nashville. Kelce started Tight End University in 2021 with the 49ers’ George Kittle and former star Greg Olsen.

In the latest episode of the “New Heights” podcast, Kelce gave credit to his two co-founders for coming up with the initial idea for the annual meeting of tight ends.

Kelce said he has learned much from the past sessions.

“It’s such a cool opportunity and a unique opportunity because it feels like you’re at an all-star game, it feels like you’re at a Pro Bowl, because it’s very seldom you get to get this many guys in your profession in one room from different teams,” Kelce said. “And it’s just so cool to hear everybody’s stories about what they’ve been through kind of how their coaches teach them certain routes or certain blocking schemes.

“You get to just bounce ideas off of each other, and I think it’s helped my game out a lot just hearing from guys. I think it’s helped everybody understand kind of how the tight-end position has gotten to where it is now because we bring guys that have been in the league forever, like a Marcedes Lewis, bringing in guys like Dallas Clark to come in and talk football.”

Kelce, a four-time All-Pro with seven straight 1,000-plus receiving yard seasons, also imparts his wisdom on others.

The NFL shared this clip from Wednesday’s Tight End University session.

During a visit last week to “Good Morning Football,” Kittle said he expected 75 tight ends to take part in the event. Quarterbacks Josh Allen, Sam Darnold, Trey Lance, CJ Beathard and Nick Mullens were expected to be on hand, and former NFL players Rob Gronkowski and Jordan Reed will join in the teaching sessions.

The Chiefs’ Jody Fortson is among the tight ends in attendance.
