Former Blue Valley H.S. star honors bird he killed after hitting homer for Guardians
It’s unexpectedly turned into Wildlife Month around Major League Baseball.
On Tuesday, a squirrel appeared near the stands at a Yankees game, and New York fans had the absolute best reaction. The squirrel’s landing was something to behold, too. Last week, Diamondbacks pitcher Zac Gallen killed a bird with a warmup pitch.
On Monday, there was another avian fatality. Guardians outfielder Will Brennan’s opposite-field single hit a bird that was resting on the infield grass in Cleveland. The bird never saw this coming.
Brennan, the former Blue Valley High School and Kansas State star, took to Twitter after the game and offered his apologies.
“I truly am sorry @peta and bird enthusiasts,” Brennan wrote. “An unfortunate sacrifice.”
On Tuesday, Brennan hit a home run during the Guardians’ 4-2 loss to the White Sox. While rounding the bases, Brennan paid tribute to the bird that was killed.
