Travis Kelce didn’t take the bait when asked about Chiefs facing Lions in the opener

Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce sniffed this one out right away.

While on the SiriusXM Blitz with hosts Bruce Murray and former Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith earlier this month, Kelce was asked about the NFL Kickoff Game.

The Chiefs will face the Lions in the NFL’s 2023 season opener at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.

Murray asked Kelce: “If I said to you five years ago the NFL wants to feature the Super Bowl champs and put the best matchup on to start the season, what would your response have been if I said it’s going to be the Lions?”

Kelce chuckled and called out Murray for trying to get a soundbite or bulletin-board material.

“That’s a messed up question. I see what you’re trying to do, Bruce,” Kelce said as Murray laughed. “That ain’t right. And you know what? Dan Campbell, the knee biting, all of that. That’s a tough team over there in Detroit right now.

“I know it’s gonna be a hell of a prime-time matchup to open up the season on Thursday night. I’m not going to go down that road with what Detroit used to be.”

That’s a good answer from Kelce.
