A very good (and patient) dog got a deserved shout-out from Royals TV broadcasters
Although they’ve lived in Kansas City for years, Brandi and Sergio Montes had never made it to Kauffman Stadium until Tuesday night.
It was one of the Royals’ Bark in the Park nights, and it was the perfect opportunity to bring Casper, their 4-year-old Great Pyrenees, along with their infant son.
Little did the couple know, but they and Casper would end up being featured on the Bally Sports Kansas City’s broadcast.
During a break in the action, cameras caught the couple eating a hot dog under the watchful eye of Casper.
“We’re trying to teach him patience,” Sergio noted.
Mission accomplished. Although Casper really, really wanted a bite of the hot dog Sergio was eating, he never made a move to eat it.
“I mean look at him, what a good dog by the way,” Bally Sports KC’s Ryan Lefebvre said. “Does that guy have any idea that his dog is just drooling all over himself?”
“I’m impressed,” Rex Hudler said, “there’s not a lot of drooling.”
Sergio said before they were on TV, he had given Casper half of a hot dog and the other half came after his humans ate their food. It’s part of that patience training.
Casper and his owners stuck it out through a two-hour rain delay, much of which was spent in a covered off-leash area at the stadium.
They were part of 11,258 people and 407 dogs at the game. When food wasn’t around (he was rewarded with another hot dog later in the game), Casper dozed quietly.
“He is,” Brandi noted, “a good dog.”
Royals fans watching Tuesday night’s game know that’s true.
