The Chiefs on Tuesday brought back running back Jerick McKinnon after his memorable 2022 season.

McKinnon had nine touchdown receptions, which tied an NFL record for a running back in a season, and had at least one TD catch in the Chiefs’ final six regular-season games. He also rushed for 291 yards and a score.

In addition to his work with the ball, McKinnon was a standout blocker who helped keep opposing defensive players from quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

It was the finest season of McKinnon’s career, which began in 2014.

McKinnon also impressed fans with his sliding. The Chiefs were running down the clock in Super Bowl LVII for a game-winning field goal attempt when McKinnon had a clear path to the end zone.

Instead, he stopped short with a slide.

That selfless play drew the admiration of many fans. Here’s a look back at what fans and a former Chiefs player were saying about McKinnon this week and after the Super Bowl.
