Jason McCourty trolls Chiefs, Patrick Mahomes at NFL Draft, then throws shade at KC BBQ
There were more than a few fans who were upset to see the Chiefs bring the Lombardi Trophy to the 2023 NFL Draft in Kansas City.
Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce had the trophy on stage Thursday before the start of the draft. And the Lombardi was clearly visible when Chiefs CEO/chairman Clark Hunt made the team’s first-round pick.
Among those who took note of the Chiefs’ Super Bowl flex at the NFL Draft was former Titans/Patriots defensive back Jason McCourty.
Before making one of the Titans’ picks on Friday night at Union Station, McCourty trolled the Chiefs, threw shade at Kansas City barbecue and heard a chorus of boos from fans at the draft.
“I have to say congratulations to the Kansas City Chiefs. I saw Mahomes and Kelce out here,” McCourty said. “I’ve had some fond memories here. I remember being at Arrowhead Stadium in 2018 when we won the AFC Championship Game and we went to the Super Bowl and Patrick Mahomes was one trophy short. Yes, I said it. I’m sorry.”
McCourty was with the Patriots when they beat the Chiefs 37-31 in overtime of the AFC Championship Game in Mahomes’ first season as a starter.
But that wasn’t all McCourty had to say. He also took a shot at Kansas City barbecue.
“But now it’s all about the Tennessee Titans and we are the real team where the Houston Oilers started,” said McCourty, who is a cast member on the NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football.” “You see me rocking it. Tennessee, the home of the best barbecue in the nation. Did I say something? No, not true. I take it back. I’m sorry, but I don’t mean to offend anybody.”
Uh-huh, right. McCourty absolutely wanted to offend Kansas City fans.
Here is the moment when McCourty turned the draft into a roast.
