Royals’ Bobby Witt Jr. hit a foul ball that was caught by his dad at the stadium
There was an announced crowd of 17,760 fans at Globe Life Field on Tuesday night for the Royals’ 8-5 loss to the Rangers in 10 innings.
Among those in the stands were members of Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr.’s family, including his father.
Although there is no way Witt could have planned it, he was responsible for dad getting a pretty cool souvenir.
Witt fouled off a pitch that landed in a suite and his dad got the ball. Bobby Witt Sr. pitched in the big leagues from 1986-2001, so getting a foul ball usually isn’t a big deal.
But this was something special.
As Bally Sports Kansas City’s Joel Goldberg reported, Witt wrote a message on the ball that said: “Hit by Bobby Witt Jr. Caught by Bobby Witt Sr. April 11, 2023.”
This was a fun thing to happen from the Royals game.
You may be asking what are the odds of something like that happening? As Bally Sports KC’s Ryan Lefebvre wryly noted during Wednesday’s broadcast, it’s 1 in 17,760.
