For Pete's Sake

Daughter of DeMar DeRozan was star of Bulls’ play-in win but can’t be at next game

Diar DeRozan’s persistence wore down her father, Bulls forward DeMar DeRozan, and it turned out to be a good thing for dear ol’ dad.

During the Bulls’ 109-105 win over the Toronto Raptors in Wednesday night’s play-in game in Chicago, Diar DeRozan played a small but pivotal part in the victory.

Whenever the Raptors were attempting free throws, Diar would let out a scream that rattled the shooters.

The Raptors shot just 50% from the line (18 of 36). If the Raptors had made just five more attempts, they’d have won the game.

As it turns out, Diar almost wasn’t at the game.

“My daughter called me the other day when she was getting out of school and she just said, ‘Dad, can I come to the Toronto game?’” DeRozan told reporters, per Bulls Talk. “I remember her going to all the Toronto games when she was a kid and I almost said no because she’s in school back home. But she kept asking.

“She was just adamant about coming to support, and I said, ‘All right, you can miss one day of school and come to a game.’ I’m glad I did. I owe her some money for sure.”

Next up for DeRozan and the Bulls is a game Friday night against the Heat in Miami.

DeRozan was asked if Diar would make the trip to the Sunshine State.

“No,” DeRozan told reporters, “she’s got to go back to school.”

C’mon, dad, it’s a Friday night game.

Here’s DeRozan talking about Diar’s role in helping the Bulls win and why she can’t be at the Heat game.
