Chiefs are seen as good candidate to be chosen for the NFL’s new Black Friday game
We’re roughly a month from when the NFL should release the 2023 schedule, and there are a couple questions about the Chiefs that need to be answered.
Namely: who will the Chiefs play in the season opener and who will be the opponent for KC’s game in Germany?
The NFL also will announce the matchup for its inaugural Black Friday game. CBS Sports noted the league hasn’t had a regularly scheduled game on a Friday since 1986, but this is a new endeavor.
Amazon Prime will air the game on the day after Thanksgiving (Nov. 24), and fans will be able to watch without a subscription, the streaming service said.
“We’re excited to expand our relationship with the NFL and build a new holiday tradition for our customers with the first Black Friday NFL game,” Jay Marine, vice president of Prime Video and global head of Sports said in a news release. “We’re so very proud of our ‘Thursday Night Football’ production and all the teams in front of and behind the camera.
“As families look to spend time together over the holiday weekend, we are excited to provide an opportunity for everyone to enjoy this new day of NFL action.”
Which teams will be chosen to play in the short-week game?
In that CBS Sports, Jeff Kerr listed five possibilities and No. 1 is the Chiefs’ game against the Jets, which will be played at MetLife Stadium. It could be the State Farm Bowl if the Packers and Jets can work out a deal that would send quarterback Aaron Rodgers to the East Coast.
“Let’s assume Aaron Rodgers heads to the Jets this offseason,” Kerr wrote. “What an opportunity for Rodgers to face Patrick Mahomes for the first time in the ‘Big Apple’ — on a day the majority of the country has off work and can watch a battle of the last two MVPs.
“MetLife Stadium would host the first matchup between Rodgers and Mahomes in a game that would rival the three Thanksgiving Day slugfests.
“Again, it’s a hypothetical Rodgers goes to the Jets. If Rodgers does end up in New York, the Jets are going to be a must watch — especially against the defending Super Bowl champions.”
This is just something for Chiefs fans to keep in mind ahead of the NFL schedule release.
