For Pete's Sake

A KC Royals player appeared to be robbed of a home run by a beer vendor

The height of the left-center field wall at Oracle Park in San Francisco is 10 feet tall.

Unfortunately for Royals outfielder/catcher MJ Melendez, it was temporarily larger than that during Saturday’s game against the Giants, and it appeared to cost him a home run.

Can a wall spontaneously increase in size? Of course not. This was just a strange case of bad timing.

Melendez crushed a pitch from Giants starter Sean Manaea to the opposite field in the fourth inning. The ruling on the field was the ball hit the top of the wall and caromed back into the field of play.

However, a beer vendor had put his cooler on the top of the wall. The ball seemed to strike the top of the wall, then hit the cooler and go back into play.

Take the cooler away, and that ball appeared to have been headed off the fence and into the stands.

The initial call on the field was that the ball hit the fence and stayed in play, and that was upheld by a review. Do you agree? Take a look.

Many people thought the umpire got the review wrong and Melendez should have been credited with a home run.
