New Chiefs defensive lineman made one of the 49ers’ biggest plays in the postseason
San Francisco had a six-point lead late in the third quarter of January’s wild-card game against the Seahawks, but Seattle was in the red zone threatening to take the lead.
That’s when 49ers defensive ends Charles Omenihu and Nick Bosa turned the tide of the game.
Bosa pressured Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith, who stepped up and had the ball knocked out of his hands by Omenihu. Bosa recovered and the 49ers moved 70 yards in seven plays for a touchdown that gave San Francisco a commanding lead.
NFL Films’ Turning Point showed how the play unfolded and how Omenihu’s long wingspan forced the turnover, which was one of the biggest postseason plays for the 49ers. It also illustrates what KC fans can expect from Omenihu, who agreed to a two-year contract this week with the Chiefs.
Here are some other highlights of Omenihu from his time with San Francisco and the Houston Texans. Omenihu started his career with the Texans before a midseason trade sent him to the 49ers in 2021.
Let’s start with a strip sack of his new teammate, quarterback Patrick Mahomes, in 2019.
