As he leaves Chiefs, JuJu Smith-Schuster has good things to say about his time in KC
Wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster spent just one season in Kansas City, but it was a productive time.
Smith-Schuster appeared in 16 regular-season games in 2022, caught 78 passes and had 933 receiving yards. The latter was the second-most in his six years in the NFL, behind his breakout 2018 season.
And, of course, Smith-Schuster helped the Chiefs win Super Bowl LVII.
Add it all up and Smith-Schuster was bound to generate interest from other teams. And one of them, the New England Patriots, agreed to a three-year deal worth $33 million with Smith-Schuster, as ESPN reported. The contract will pay him $22.5 million in the first two seasons.
It’s a big boost from the one-year, $3.76 million contract Smith-Schuster signed with the Chiefs a year ago. That deal included significant incentives.
Smith-Schuster leaves the Chiefs on good terms. He shared a Twitter message expressing his gratitude to the Chiefs coaches, players and the fans.
“Thank you to Kansas City for ... giving me the opportunity to come in and contribute to a Super Bowl, the most unforgettable experience of my life,” Smith-Schuster wrote. “I will always love my teammates, the coaching staff, and the fans for being so great to me.”
