For Pete's Sake

One of Royals’ top prospects crushes home run, collects four RBIs in win over Guardians

The Royals took advantage of some wild Guardians pitching Tuesday and broke a tie with a six-run ninth inning in a 12-6 victory in Goodyear, Arizona.

Cleveland pitchers issued a pair of walks to open the frame, and after an out advanced both runners, catcher José Briceño, a non-roster invitee, delivered a two-run single.

Another walk and a single loaded the bases for catcher Logan Porter, who is also a non-roster invitee. He doubled to deep center field as two more runs scored.

After an out, shortstop Maikel Garcia capped his big game with a two-run single that made it 12-6.

Garcia, who batted .318 in nine games with the Royals a year ago, is the team’s No. 5 prospect according to MLB.com.

In the sixth inning on Tuesday, Garcia drilled a two-run homer and he finished with four RBIs in the Cactus League game. This ball got out of the park in a hurry.

Garcia has played in two spring games and is batting .667 with a 1.834 on-base-plus-slugging percentage.
