More details emerge about Netflix docuseries featuring Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes
The NFL and Netflix announced last week that Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes would be one of three quarterbacks featured in a forthcoming docuseries on the streaming service.
“Quarterback” will air this summer. Cameras will follow Mahomes, the Vikings’ Kirk Cousins and Falcons’ Marcus Mariota when they’re with their teams and at home.
NBC Sports’ Peter King shared more details of what fans can expect to see in the docuseries.
King reported Chiefs coach Andy Reid wasn’t on board with the idea at first but had a change of heart after Mahomes wanted to take part. Reid also fielded a call from Peyton Manning, who formed Omaha Productions, which is among the producers of the docuseries.
One reason why Reid hesitated: He didn’t want a “Hard Knocks” situation around Chiefs practices, King reported.
But Mahomes was mic’d-up for every game and at least one practice a week as a Chiefs film crew worked on the production.
NFL Films executive producer Keith Cossrow also told King that cameras were in Mahomes’ house after he suffered a high-ankle sprain in the Divisional Round playoff game against the Jaguars.
“There’s a couple of magical moments with Patrick during the Super Bowl that you’ll see,” Crossrow told King. “And his off-platform throws are explained by the person he works with to make the precision throws. You’ll see how every day he works to contort and throw on target. Basically, you’re gonna learn how Patrick Mahomes is like an owl.”
Well that’s intriguing, right?
King also reported the Netflix special will be either seven or eight episodes.
