The NFL Honors awards program will be held Thursday night, and all signs point toward Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes winning a second MVP award.

Mahomes was the first-team All-Pro quarterback and was the Pro Football Writers of America MVP selection. Both portend well for him being NFL MVP.

National NFL writers and broadcasters shared their thoughts on Mahomes and the MVP vote. Here is a sample of what is being said ahead of the NFL Honors program, which will air on KSHB (Ch. 41) at 8 p.m.

CBS Sports picked the winners for each category at the NFL Honors.

Here’s part of what Jordan Dajani wrote about the MVP race: “Mahomes will likely win his second MVP, and could win his second Super Bowl this weekend as well. He led all quarterbacks in passing touchdowns this season with 41, and had the best passer rating when targeting running backs and tight ends (125.1). I guess losing Tyreek Hill didn’t hurt too bad.”

The NFL Network asked 25 of its broadcasters to pick the winners at the NFL Honors. Mahomes was the choice at MVP from 18 of those voters. Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts received the other seven votes.

Former Rams offensive lineman Andrew Whitworth, who is part of Amazon Prime’s NFL coverage, was skeptical of Mahomes’ chances at one point, but now he says the Chiefs quarterback is the clear choice.

Bleacher Report picked winners for the NFL Honors, and Mahomes was the choice for MVP.

This is part of what Maurice Bobb wrote: “If Mahomes hadn’t racked up the numbers he did this season, this award might go to Hurts, his Super Bowl LVII opponent. The cherry on top was Mahomes breaking Brees’ single season total yards record.”

Brady Quinn, another CBS Sports analyst, shared his reasons for why Mahomes will win that second MVP award on Thursday night.
