Jeffery Simmons angered by Chris Jones’ joke about getting inside info from Titans star
The big question leading into Sunday night’s Chiefs-Titans game was whether or not Tennessee quarterback Ryan Tannehill would be able to play.
A week earlier, Tannehill missed the Titans game at Houston and rookie Malik Willis got his first NFL start. The Titans said Tannehill would be a game-time decision against the Chiefs, but he couldn’t go and Willis got the start again.
After the Chiefs won 20-17 in overtime, defensive tackle Chris Jones was asked how prepared the team was to face Willis.
“No, we (weren’t) surprised. I talked to (Titans defensive tackle) Jeff Simmons earlier during the week and we knew. You know, you got to pick their brain,” Jones said with a slight smile. “We knew that he was going to play. Tannehill was in a boot, so we prepared for him (Willis) well.
“I don’t think we gave up that many rushing yards against him. Second half, I just (saw) 27 plays, 7 yards (for the Titans). Kudos to the defense. We played a hell of a game — second half I would say. First half we kind of gave up some leaky yardage. But, a heck of a team win.”
Jones’ smile was a sign that he was joking about getting inside information from Simmons. Plus Jones noted Tannehill was in a walking boot, so that really told the Chiefs who would be playing.
But Simmons was not pleased to read Jones’ comment. He called out Jones on Twitter.
“@StoneColdJones I thought we was better than that! We never talk last week,” Simmons wrote. “I never once mentioned anything about our QB situation. Come on bro, that’s not it fr! And everyone gassing that bs, y’all know me better than that! Idc if you are my twin brother, I would never do that!”
Simmons later deleted the tweet, perhaps after reading Jones’ response to Simmons’ message.
“They twisting for a story,” Jones wrote to Simmons.
