Titans aren’t sure who’ll start at quarterback vs. the Chiefs. Here’s where things stand

Titans running back Derrick Henry said this week a foot injury won’t keep him from playing the “Sunday Night Football” game against the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium.

However, the status of Tennessee quarterback Ryan Tannehill remains unknown. He missed the Titans’ game Sunday against the Houston Texans because of an ankle injury.

The Titans website noted Tannehill was limited at Wednesday’s practice and he missed Thursday’s session. Tannehill was seen in Tennessee’s locker room with his right ankle taped, the website said.

Rookie Malik Willis, who was selected in the third round out of Liberty, started the game against Houston and completed six of 10 passes for 55 yards with an interception.

Willis would get the start Sunday against the Chiefs if Tannehill can’t play.

Tennessee offensive coordinator Todd Downing was asked Thursday what he saw from Tannehill at practice Wednesday.

“I’ll leave the curtain closed on that one,” Downing said, “but I can tell you that he’s working hard to get back and he’s a competitor.”

The Titans website noted Willis is continuing to get extra work as practice this week.

Downing was asked about the difficulty of planning for the Chiefs with the quarterback situation in flux.

“I think some of it is just figuring out what the load management throughout the week is going to be,” Downing said. “So you feel like you have preparation in all scenarios, and we do a great job of laying out the schedule so that we can make our guys get whatever looks ... or visuals they need to.

“I feel comfortable with where we’re at in that process.”

Update

Tannehill was a limited participant at Friday’s practice. ESPN’s Turron Davenport expects Tennessee to make a game-time decision on whether Tannehill will play against the Chiefs. He is officially listed as questionable.
