Travis Kelce thinks Kadarius Toney will fit in well because Giants coach has Chiefs ties

Chiefs coach Andy Reid said earlier this week that he expects it’ll be a “gradual process” to get new wide receiver Kadarius Toney up to speed in the offense.

But Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce believes Toney could have a leg up because of the team that traded Toney to the Chiefs: the Giants.

New York offensive coordinator Mike Kafka joined the Giants in February after working as the Chiefs for the past five years, including four seasons as quarterbacks coach.

“I would assume that it’s a similar offense knowing that our quarterback coach Mike Kafka, one of our guys — shout out to Kafka, man,” Kelce said on his “New Heights” podcast with his brother, Jason. “I think it’ll be a smoother transition than coming from a lot of other teams in the league but I’m extremely excited. I mean, that guy is an absolute beast with the ball in his hands. I love the routes that he runs.

“Obviously his college highlight tape at Florida is second to none. Taking things to the house. I believe he was compared to Tyreek (Hill) when he was coming out. Not a lot of guys get that Tyreek comparison, but I think they were more so just saying that because (of) how many touchdowns, how many big-time touchdowns he has, meaning big plays, meaning 20-plus yards or 30-plus yards, maybe even 40-plus yards, taking things to the house and being that game changer.

“I’m excited for him, man. I’m excited. To be able to add another weapon that you’ve got to account for in this offense is extremely exciting, especially one of his caliber.”

Later in the podcast episode, which was released Wednesday, Kelce was asked by his brother about the upcoming “Sunday Night Football” game against the Tennessee Titans.

Kelce said it’ll be a challenge because of their “rabid, hungry, tough defense” and running back Derrick Henry.

What’s the plan to stop Henry, Kelce was asked.

“It’s gonna be a huge challenge for our defensive line and our linebackers but we’ve got Willie Gay back, and when that guy is flying around, him and (Nick) Bolton, another linebacker, when they’re flying around, they can definitely stop the run. So we’ll see how it goes. “
